The more exciting world of core contributions

The Core Conversations track is a place for sessions that spark discussion, open questions, and form the base for an ongoing development in the Drupal core space. We’d like to offer all accepted sessions some help facilitating or moderating discussion. The session could be a debate style panel, or a more traditional presentation.

Drupal 8 is a groundbreaking release for the Drupal community in many ways. Semantic versioning and the release schedule is one of the most applauded new arrivals. There are now scheduled minor releases every 6 months which can have new additions. This means if you want to get a new feature in (frontend or backend) you can make it happen within 6 months. Why not submit a session to the Core Conversation track on the new feature you’re looking to implement?

There are a number of core initiatives ongoing, many with changes in Drupal 8.2 already, due for release in October. In New Orleans Dries spent the majority of his keynote talking about some of the new proposed and planned initiatives, then about proposing further initiatives, once you have your plan issue in the queue the Core Conversation track is a great place to explain and get buy in for the initiative.

With all of these process and schedule changes there is always time for retrospectives and planning further non-code contributions to the Drupal community. The Core Conversation track is the ideal forum for these types of session too.

Drupal 7 opened the doors to improved user experience and accessibility in the community with the D7UX initiative. As we add new features into Drupal core we need to make sure time is given to user experience and accessibility. If this is something you care about please share your views in a session for the Core Conversation track.

As already mentioned, the landscape of Drupal core has changed, and will be changing more. This is an exciting time to get involved and the Core Conversation track is an ideal platform for this.

Look forward to seeing you in Dublin.
