Strategic User Experience for Stanford’s Fingate
This presentation is composed of three parts:
1. Research methodologies that significantly informed our design process from initial discovery to delivery
2. Design principles that were developed to support a robust Information Architecture and content discovery experience
3. Key takeaways when designing for administrative workflows
1. Research Methodologies
We begin by describing the starting point for the project, the process we used to define the user and project goals, as well as the core problem we were solving for. We will touch on some of the methodologies we used to validate key decisions along the way including:
● Semi-structured interviews
● Focus groups
● Card sorting
● Co-design
● Usability Testing
2. Design Principles
From our research, we distilled a number of key design principles and project goals. In this section, we will talk about the principles we captured, and the data we gathered along the way to ensure we were on the right path.
3. Key Takeaways
We conclude by sharing universal takeaways, and concrete examples of how we applied these within our design:
● Understand different types of users and their day-to-day context
● How scaffolding and chunking can help users incrementally learn about a topic over time
● Build site labels and architecture around your users’ mental models and workflows
● Design for both findability & discoverability
● Building credibility and trust in content
