10 Things You Must Not Miss When You Come for DrupalCon Asia 2016

The Drupal Association has partnered with Niswey, an India-based marketing firm, to provide marketing materials for DrupalCon Asia. Every few weeks, we'll be sharing the blogs and comic strips that our Niswey friends have created in anticipation of the convention.

Mumbai, earlier known as Bombay, offers up an interesting mix of history and modernity that cannot be  explained in words. You simply have to experience this city.

1. Gateway of India: Located on the waterfront in the Apollo Bunder area in South Mumbai, the Gateway of India overlooks the Arabian Sea. Considered India's most valued structure, today it is one of the most popular tourist places in Mumbai. It attracts people from all over the world, who flock here just for a glimpse of this monument.

2. Beaches: Situated on the western coast of India and adjacent to the magnificent Arabian Sea, Mumbai is famous for its beaches which offer a relaxing environment and mouthwatering local eateries. Some of the most popular beaches in Mumbai are Juhu Beach, Chowpatti Beach and Madh Island Beach.

3. Chor Bazaar (Thieves’ Market): One of the largest flea markets in India, this market got the name Chor Bazaar (the literal translation is Thieves’ Market) because of the stolen goods that used to be sold here. Now, this market is known for the antique goods and vintage items sold there.

Necklace, because if viewed at night from an elevated point anywhere along the drive, the street lights resemble a string of pearls in a necklace. This is one of the most beautiful roads in Mumbai to take a stroll or drive around.

5. The Bandra Worli Sea Link: It’s been just few years that this massive bridge was built to link two of the most popular areas in Mumbai. This is now a favorite hangout spot for many, with its picturesque view of the waves rising up onto the road. It is a sight that must not be missed.

6. AER: This classy and magnificent bar located atop the bright Bombay lights is a dream come true. AER Lounge is Mumbai's highest rooftop bar, with panoramic city and sea views. Breeze, drinks, music and conversations—it’s the just what you need after a hectic day at DrupalCon

7. Bade Miyan (behind the Taj Mahal Hotel, Colaba): Fond of Kebabs and Indian curries? Then this eating joint is a must‐visit for you. Though it is a small street‐side joint, it serves the most amazing kebabs in Mumbai which will leave you yearning for more. Open till late at night, it is also the best option if you are looking for post‐midnight food joints.

8. Antilia: The world's most expensive private home, 'Antilia' belongs to the Ambani family of Reliance Industries. The home has 27 floors, with extra‐high ceilings (other buildings of equivalent height may have as many as 60 floors). It is designed to survive an 8‐Richter scale earthquake.

9. Film City, Goregaon: This is the place where the Indian film industry creates movies the whole world loves. It has massive sets erected for films and TV serials shot here. It is an altogether different experience to be here and witness the making of films.

10. Celebrity House Spotting: Mumbai is home to some of the world’s most famous celebrities who have a fan following that is unmatched. It’s fun to see the craziness of the fans that flock outside their favorite celebrities’ home just to catch a glimpse of them. Some of the most famous houses here are Pratiksha (actor Amitabh Bachchan’s bungalow), Mannat (actor Shah Rukh Khan’s house) and Galaxy Apartments (home of actor Salman Khan), all which are also landmarks of Mumbai.
