Do you ever wonder why Drupal used hooks to extend code instead of object-oriented programing?; or how we got stuck using PHP 5.x when PHP 7.x was out for many years?
Many of us take the programming language we use every day for granted. We know nothing about the development of PHP. The evolution and limitation of PHP play a critical role in the decisions we make during Drupal's life cycle. This session will give its attendees an overview of the history of PHP, as well as, inform them of major issues the Drupal community had to work through during its growth.
