Decoupled Architecture, the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

tobby

There is a traditional Drupal instance where the front-end comes from a Drupal theme. And there’s a completely decoupled experience, where the Drupal back-end and the front-end (written in Node, React, Angular, etc) is a completely different thing. But everything isn’t black and white when it comes to Decoupled (or Headless) Drupal. Decoupling is a wide spectrum with significant variations and architectural patterns.

This session will be a conceptual deep-dive into some of the most common decoupled design patterns, and will discuss the pros and cons of each. Most importantly, it will help you determine how to choose exactly which approach you need for your next project. We’ll explore some of the technology and modules you can use to make it happen.
