Entity References gone overboard and how they can sink your project

japerry

Drupal differentiates itself by allowing site builders to create semantic relationships between pieces of data. However, some recent popular modules and architectures have made it easy for sites to become quickly bloated and unmangagable.

We'll explore some of the most recent trends in site building like Paragraphs, Entity Reference Revisions, Field Collection, and Entity Reference in general.

Then we'll go indepth to some examples of sites that are having trouble scaling these architectures; creating performance, storage, and editorial issues.

Finally, we'll discuss some potential solutions and why its important to re-think about where references should and shouldn't be used. Attendees should walk away critically thinking about the modules and relationships on their site and the potential downsides of using architectures that heavily rely on entity references.

Attendees should have some basic idea about site building with Drupal. While some of the analyitics may be advanced, the key take-aways are not.
