Federated Content and Drupal

tobby

Drupal makes content management easy. But what happens when Drupal is responsible for some of your content, but not all of it? How do you build a website in which content originates from multiple systems or networks? Federated content modeling is a way to organize or map decentralized content that resides in multiple, interconnected (or not) systems.

Over time, whether through acquisition or disparate organizational structure, multiple content management systems may be implemented over time to house an organization’s collective set of content. With years’ worth of infrastructure in place, it’s not feasible or cost-effective to try and migrate everything to Drupal (or any other CMS). How, then, can Drupal play nicely in this federated ecosystem?

This session will cover the how and why of the Federated Content Model (FCM), and how Drupal can play a part in a richer Digital Experience Platform. Why not simply merge all content into a single, centralized CMS? What are some different ways that Drupal (decoupled or not) can interact seamlessly with other Content Management Systems?

This session will:

  • Focus on content strategy topics such as content model and design

  • Discuss considerations based on case studies and real world examples

  • Keep implementation details to a very high level, so it should be perfect for beginners or advanced Drupalers alike.
