Contrary to popular belief, choosing a web framework is not a career-defining decision. Choosing who you work with and learn from is. But finding jobs and mentors can be hard. Knowing when to leave a job can be even harder. The hardest part? Convincing complete strangers to hire you, especially with little experience in the field.

Fortunately, there are effective approaches for identifying promising opportunities and finding enthusiastic mentors. There are questions we can ask to figure out if we're too comfortable in our current role. There are countless ways to stand out in an interview without presenting an extensive portfolio or drawing a binary tree. These are the strategies that will define your career.

This session will cover those approaches, questions, and strategies. There won't be any mention of specific technologies, how to write a resume, nor a single line of code. Instead, attendees will leave with actionable insight for navigating jobs, interviews, and mentorships.

Gus has eight years of professional experience as a web developer and is fortunate to have had many mentors within the Drupal community. While he stumbled his way into those mentorships, he has since conducted hundreds of interviews and has mentored many developers. This session stems from an analysis of his experiences on both sides of the table.
