How should former designers work with designers to develop websites
As a developer for two webby award-winning sites with 10 years of working experience as a designer, I have a unique perspective on what it is like working in both roles. There are always a few “small things” from the comps that developers can’t seem to wrap their head around, or wonder the purpose of some edits in the first place. The question is the same from the other side: why can’t developers see the obvious things that designers see.
I’d like to talk about the concerns and challenges each role has in working with each other. In this session I’d like to show how developers can leverage their experience and learn from designers to provide better experience for clients, an easier relationship between developers and designers, and tips and tricks that project managers can take away to help deliver on the client’s vision and strategies.
This session will cover:
-
Challenges for Developers
-
Challenges for Designers
-
Edits from Clients
-
Solution/End goal
-
Self and Agency introduction
-
Q+A
This talk is recommended for designers, front end developers, as well as project managers who are interested in identifying repeatable patterns in projects. This topic should be universal for all web development projects with and without CMS, not just Drupal or Wordpress. The goal for is both sides to understand that honest communication is the key.
