Telling the Story - Collecting and Assessing Requirements

Lauren Kelly

Project requirements come in from a variety of sources…and in all shapes and sizes, each one labeled as important. Given this, how can we determine a good requirement from a bad one? How can we decide between conflicting requirements?

Requirements gathering may seem like chaos coming in from all sides, but in reality each requirement is a piece of the stories the stakeholders want to tell. It is up to us to be good editors and decide where in the story the pieces fit and how important of a role they are to play...and also to take a red pen to those requirements that don’t contribute to the story.

In this session, we’ll look at steps to to standardize and calculations to help prioritize requirements - all with the goal of minimizing risks while ensuring the project tells the right story.

This session is focused on information for Project Managers or Project Leads, but would be great for anyone, including other team members interested in requirements gathering.
