As the world’s leading visual discovery engine, Pinterest has built a reputation for surfacing intelligently curated, engaging, and relevant content that delights ‘Pinners’ around the world. In order to better anticipate user needs and deliver more relevant content, Pinterest and Phase2 set out to create a master data schema to capture and map user events across web properties. The result is a robust KPI and data-driven Drupal 8 platform that leverages Segment’s CDP to analyze customer data and create profiles that span the entire Pinterest brand.

Tracking user events at scale requires detailed planning, deliberate data design, and collaboration between technology, data, and content. In this talk, we’ll walk you through the best practices, tradeoffs, and lessons learned from building a sustainable infrastructure for unifying customer data.
