Discussion: Bridging the gap from Drupal 7 to Drupal 9

webchick

As of this session proposal, approximately 66% of Drupal sites are still on Drupal 7*. With Drupal 9 around the corner, and Drupal 7's end of life coming up in November of next year, it's critical to have as smooth an onramp as possible for people crossing the chasm.

This session will go over user research with Drupal users and implementers around why migrations are difficult, and what things are contributing to the adoption gap. We will then discuss strategies and propose ideas for reducing these barriers, with the ultimate aim to allow for more junior developers and even site builders and content managers to take part in the migration process, in order to reduce the overall cost and timeline of a migration. And finally, we will have pointers to specific code, projects, and other resources to help users to expedite migrations.

This session is for anyone staring down a Drupal 8/9 migration and feeling a sense of impending doom, as well as those who are experienced with migrations but want to hand the less technically interesting parts off to someone less technical.
