Drupal - A Model Community, or rather a Community Model...

Drupal is capable of many things but one of its unique selling points are its powerful tools for modeling the data you plan to present to the reader. We have many entity, content and field types and ways to present them. We can use views to display and manipulate these models to our hearts content.

However, have we really exploited this capability to model our own community on Drupal.org? We have certainly done a good job of modeling the software we produce, so let's turn our attention to modeling the community.

The Getting Involved Guide is the Drupal project's documentation of the community. Currently, it is simple a long (so very long!) series of book pages, loosely organised, describing various parts of the community, how they work and what needs to be done.

We are going to turn this on its head and use Drupal's tools to create a more active model of our community! Come to this session to learn how we are creating a content model that will allow us all to describe all the roles, both long term and temporary, in our community, the skills that they require and the tasks they perform.

Learn how we will make it possible to answer questions like "I have these skills, how can I best contribute time to Drupal?" and "I have been doing X role for a year, what can I move on to next?".

Learning Objectives

This session will be about how we will improve Drupal.org and how you can be involved. You will be able to walk away seeing how we will make it possible to answer questions like "I have these skills, how can I best contribute time to Drupal?" and "I have been doing X role for a year, what can I move on to next?".

You will also see how we came to this model, and how you might be the one to take it to the next level - where can we apply the same thinking next?

Target Audience

People interested in understanding how we want to improve how Drupal.org attracts more people to be part of the community. And maybe those who want to help!

Prerequisites

No prerequisites to this session - I always like to talk without recourse to jargon!
