How to improve psychological safety in your organization
Psychological safety is the feeling that people on a team can speak up and make mistakes without fear of repercussion. It is an essential component for the success of high-performing teams who deal with complex problems on a day-to-day basis. Companies and organizations whose teams lack psychological safety are more prone to making errors because they lack the organizational trust necessary to make the best and most-informed decisions.
At Palantir.net, we have spent the last two years working to improve psychological safety on our teams and within our organization as a whole. In this session, we will share some of the lessons we've learned and the tools and techniques that we've used to help our teams communicate and make decisions more effectively. We will:
-
Discuss the importance of psychological safety using real-life examples.
-
Talk about how ways to identify whether or not psychological safety exists in your organization using models such as the Five Dysfunctions of a Team.
-
Review a variety of techniques that both managers and team members can use to develop, foster, and maintain psychological safety, such as the Core Protocols and other exercises.
