Local Drupal development can be tricky, especially with so many choices in the Drupalsphere. Having a maintainable environment that works for you and your team is important whether you're a developer, tester, designer, or any other sort of stakeholder.

This panel includes maintainers of several top tools who know the ins and outs of local development in Drupal.

We will:

  • Review a few of the tools available, especially Docksal, Lando, Drupal VM, and DDEV-Local
  • Talk about similarities and differences between the tools
  • Explain why Docker is important and what it means in these tools
  • Cover the advantages and disadvantages of Docker-based solutions

The panel is an experienced team, and we will welcome your questions and be able to talk about topics like these:

  • Drush and Drupal Console support
  • Pre-made configurations
  • Custom configurations
  • Integration with services like Apache Solr and Memcached
  • Tool support
  • Custom web server configuration
  • Documentation
  • PHP configuration
  • Windows, MacOS, Linux support
  • Integration with hosting platforms like Pantheon, Platform.sh and DDEV-Live
  • Resurrecting ancient websites for migration reasons
