Start off on the right foot when planning website improvements. We’ll show you how to objectively assess a User Interface against usability standards and best practices. Learn how to uncover the most common pain points in the user journey and how to use the results to maximize your clients’ design buy-in early on. The UX Audit is a tool that will equip your team to tackle usability challenges efficiently.

Learning Objectives

In this session, learn how to conduct an objective usability analysis and apply it in the real world, with practical advice for leveraging the findings and then presenting them to your stakeholders.

1. What is a UX audit and where did it come from?

Discover the history of the UX Audit, how it benefits your project team, and how to explain it to your clients in a language they can understand.

2. How is a UX audit conducted?

We’ll discuss at a high-level the standards-based methodology, the 9 categories of interaction, and the questions we use to interrogate the quality of the current user experience. Hear the nuts and bolts of determining what pages to review, what functionality to focus on to maximize findings, and how the audit is scored. We will also uncover ways of getting results even if time is of the essence, a tight budget is a key factor, or even when user research is not available.

3. How do I use the findings to guide design and present them constructively?

The results of a UX Audit are the perfect way to improve an existing website with the users in mind - here’s how to interpret the results to uncover the most impactful gaps in the current experience.

Talking to clients about user experience issues can be tricky! We’ll discuss how we can guide our clients in looking beyond their own preferences when considering their users’ experiences. Since usability standards are objective, conversations within this framework can be more clinical and constructive, with a focus on the users and on best practices rather than on personal opinions.
