Trans Drupal: Designing with transgender users in mind

drnikki

UX researchers do amazing work helping us to think through how to design for all users, and how to make websites as accessible as possible.  However, there is less guidance into the ways that websites can be inclusive for binary and non-binary trans, genderfluid, and gender non-conforming users.    Inclusive design and development patterns can contribute to a safer culture for gender minorities, and this session will give you specific and concrete steps you can take at the design and data architecture phases.

In this session, we’ll talk about why designing and developing for trans users matters.  We’ll cover specific trans-inclusive design strategies, including choosing imagery, colors, and design patterns. Finally, we’ll  do a deep dive into how to develop and deploy data models that are trans inclusive.

Learning Objectives

  • List design considerations for trans users

  • Design a data model that allows for users to enter their pronouns, genders, and contexts

  • Develop a trans-inclusive styleguide
