What is the Drupal Events Working Group and why should you care?
The scope of Drupal events has expanded as our community has grown and matured, to now serving everyone in the community, not just developers. We estimate that 10,000+ attendees have participated in 50+ volunteer-led events on 6 continents in the past year alone.
“It’s really the Drupal community and not so much the software that makes the Drupal project what it is. So fostering the Drupal community is actually more important than just managing the code base.” — Dries Buytaert
Drupal camps & events play an integral role in attracting new members to the community— they are often the first experience someone may have with the community in person. These events can also provide networking and marketing opportunities for clients and agencies, marketing service providers, and much more.
In October of 2018, Kaleem Clarkson wrote a blog post, Is it Time for Camp Organizers to Become An Official Working Group, and then hosted the first video call of event organizers that included nearly 30 attendees representing 18 events in 6 different countries. Since that time we have established a formation board composed of organizers from across the globe. With the help of many, Avi Schwab drafted the first charter, which the Drupal Association and Dries Buytaert approved to make the Event Organizers Working Group official at DrupalCon Amsterdam.
