Meditation guide: Rahul Dewan (https://www.drupal.org/u/rahuldewan

Dr. Sara Lazar’s work at Harvard is demonstrating beyond doubt that the ancient Indian practice of Yoga and Dhayana (Meditation) changes the shape of the brain leading to:

  1. better emotional control and clarity
  2. reduction in negative stress, anxiety and unfounded fears
  3. slowing down age-related atrophy of certain parts of the brain

Meditation or Dhyana (ध्यान) is one of the eight limbs of Yoga and has been practiced for thousands of years in an unbroken civilizational continuity by Indians. Yoga, as is popularly known in the West, is actually ‘Yoga-Asanas’ only — physical Asanas os stretches and is only another one of the eight limbs of Yoga.

In this session, the speaker, a practitioner of Meditation for over 20 years will take the audience through:

  1. a brief theory of Dhyana including the benefits that modern science is discovering and documenting
  2. a 20-30 min practice of ‘Preksha Dhyana’ (प्रेक्षा ध्यान) — ‘Watching oneself with one’s own awareness’ a form of meditation in the Hindu-Jain Yoga practices — to give the audience a ‘taste of meditation’ with the hope that they will hooked to it forever :-)
