Learn through contribution. Come sprint with us.

DrupalCon is where you can make contributions to the Drupal project. Each convention is filled with inspiration, networking, and fun — and while cutting-edge sessions are the meat of DrupalCon, sprints are the beating heart.

Even if you’re not giving a sessions or leading a BOF at DrupalCon, there’s plenty of opportunity to give back and make a difference when you attend sprints. There will be extended sprints running from May 9 to May 17, but the main big day is Friday May 15.

Big Sprint Day is Friday, May 15

Every DrupalCon, we cap off the week with a full day of contribution sprints. The biggest sprint day at DrupalCon Los Angeles is Friday, May 15 starting at 9:00 a.m. and going until 6:00 p.m. You won't want to leave early and miss any of it. Whether you are a site builder, designer, programmer, themer, technical writer, usability specialist, or even a total newbie, this is your chance to contribute back to the Drupal community.

The sprint on Friday is generously sponsored by Bluehost and will include three separate events:

1. First-time sprinter workshop

Join this free workshop if you are familiar with Drupal but new to Drupal contribution. This hands-on workshop will cover the basics of contribution essentials like the Drupal.org issue queues and IRC, and optionally git and setting up Drupal 8 on your laptop. We will be running the first time sprinter workshop sessions between 9 am - noon. The sessions are about an hour long.

2. Mentored Core sprint

The mentored sprint is for new contributors. Mentors will be on hand to help you get set up, navigate Drupal.org, find issues you are interested in, and work through the process of contributing. All skill levels and roles are welcome. This is not a developer-only event. If you are new to contributing or you do not yet have a Drupal 8 development environment, you should attend the first-time sprinter workshop, then come here.

3. General sprints

If you're an experienced Drupal contributor, you can head straight to one of the many other sprints to do focused work on one particular area of Drupal. So far we have:

  • Getting D8 done

  • Multilingual

  • Front-end United

  • Drupal.org

  • Content Staging in D8

  • Media in D8

  • and more

You will work directly with initiative leads and collaborate on issues. This is a great opportunity to make a difference for the Drupal project!
