SEO! What It Is, Why We Care, and How We Make It Happen
WHAT IS THIS ABOUT?
This humorous introductory session defines SEO and explains how it is used with web sites in general and Drupal sites in particular.
Although put it in the "Business and Strategy" section, the core themes of this talk could easily fit in the "Coding and Development" and "Site Building" categories.
The core idea of SEO is that its success depends on collaboration. Developers, managers, project analysts, and copy writers of any site all have an important role to play.
WHO IS THE AUDIENCE?
Anyone. This talk starts by defining SEO and then explaining how the basics work in a way that does not demand code expertise to understand and apply these themes and tricks.
HOW LONG IS THE TALK?
About 50 minutes with time left for questions and audience discussion.
ARE THESE SLIDES THE FINAL VERSION?
As of my submitting this on Feb 27, 2015 -- no.
Firstly, I have notes in my PPTX version that I would like to transfer to the final PDF version so the audience will later have not only the slides, but also what I said about them. Sometimes I find myself in a wonderful presentation where the slides are engaging and the speaker is fantastic, but when reviewing the slides later I find that the slide content itself is sparse and I can't remember what some slides were even explaining. I don't want to generate that same problem.
Secondly, SEO is forever changing and this presentation has been changing along with it. If any key updates need to be made to accomodate news events or algorithm changes, I want my presentation to have the freshest content, so I will update them if needed.
WHAT VERSION OF DRUPAL APPLIES HERE?
I highlighted D7 because that is the version I most work with. But the core discussion about SEO bleeds into different versions of Drupal as well, and given that there are D6 modules and there will be D8 modules as well, this is not, strictly speaking, just a talk about D7.
