Accessible is No Longer Enough: Accessible UX Testing and Development

Accessible Media Inc (AMI) launched a completely redesigned website in late April. Instead of simply creating a more accessible site, AMI wanted to give all users an enjoyable experience that was beyond standard ideas of accessibility. The collaborative partnerships that AMI built with MitreboxUXD and Myplanet resulted in something more than just a site: the team was able to launch a next generation interactive media portal focused on ease of use and enjoyment for all visitors.

It was critical to incorporate assistive technology into the design process, from Day 1 design to user testing to the QA process. In this presentation we’ll explore what is required to create an inclusive design, including how to run user testing with assistive technology to optimize for users with limited and no vision and we’ll share tools to improve your DevOps and QA processes when testing for accessibility concerns.

Attendees will take away:

  • Ways to explore inclusive design
  • How to effectively run user testing with blind/low vision users
  • Tools to identify common pitfalls of accessible development
  • DevOps and QA procedures for testing accessibility concerns
