Better storytelling through project management

afear

Many site redesigns are triggered by a strategic need to do a better job of storytelling. This is especially true for nonprofits, advocacy organizations, and educational institutions that rely on recruitment.

But redesigns can have many stakeholders, often with competing priorities, and before you know it your strategic impulse is ground up into the sausage of site building, homepage real estate disputes, information architecture rejiggering, development, theming, and blobs and chunks of legacy content. Reaching the inevitable compromises can quickly lead to a shift in focus from the thing you need to convey most - the big picture.

How do we manage all the tactical decisionmaking and hands-on work that goes into a site redesign project and still maintain focus on the big picture? This talk discusses basic approaches that project managers can use to help organizations tell a better story.
