Designing Government Digital Services with Drupal

jason.coghlan

Governments around the world are adopting standards for the design and delivery of more user centred digital services using agile development methods. They are also increasingly embracing open source, and in some cases using Drupal as the standard content management platform for government websites.

Whilst whiteboards, post-it notes, and HTML mockups are all cost effective tools for designing these services, Drupal can also provide service delivery teams with a suite of tools to rapidly protoype a proposed solution.

This session will focus on promoting Drupal 8 as more than just a content management system, and examine its use as a protoyping framework for government teams to test:

  • User interface design
  • Content model and information architecture
  • Application functionality
  • Integration with third party applications and legacy systems

We will compare the approach to other prototyping solutions in terms of:

  • Ease of use
  • Flexibility
  • Potential for reuse
  • Cost effectiveness

As an outcome of this session you will have working examples that will help build a narrative with your government clients, and promote Drupal 8 as a cost effective prototyping solution, not just a content management product.
