Drupal as a Sharing Economy Platform

The Sharing Economy is an increasingly popular term to describe technical / sociological platforms that enable people to share resources and redefine what it means to "own" something. While there are many challenges ahead, these types of ideas are bound to grow. It is not just about Uber or Airbnb - there are literally hundreds of thousands of local, national and international sharing economy platforms that will be developed and we believe that Drupal 8 will be the best application framework to enable their creation.

We will describe our experience in building just these types of solutions for clients combining Drupal with BAT, our booking solution. BAT is a standalone PHP library that powers booking applications, and it has a complimentary Drupal module that integrates BAT concepts into Drupal.

The wider lessons we will touch on are how we can think of Drupal as an application framework in general, and how we can develop solutions that are not Drupal-dependent (like our BAT library) but work seamlessly with Drupal.
