The End is Nigh: Can Drupal survive?

xtfer

Five years ago, a website was a purely "desktop" experience, however with the launch of the iPhone the mobile device revolution destroyed that neat reality. Five years on everyone worth knowing has a responsive website and some kind of mobile awareness, while Push-based apps are commonplace. This perfect storm of behaviour and technology up-ended 10 years of internet best practice almost overnight. Through the power of a capable base tool and a diverse and skilled community, Drupal managed to respond and keep up with this change.

But jump to 2016, and another perfect storm is brewing, and this one threatens to overwhelm products like Drupal. Simpler, faster, cheaper tools; a profliferation of mediums; IoT, AI and more programmatic systems; all these and more will fundamentally change the publishing model which Drupal is designed for, driving users back towards proprietary tooling.

How can Drupal weather the storm and make it to Drupal 9? What will the community look like? What kinds of decisions will we need to make? This keynote-style session will explore these questions, and more...
