The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: Project case studies

Ashleigh Thevenet

Not all projects are successful.  As much as we would like them to be, there are many factors and different players who contribute to overall project success.  This session will cover several project case studies, going into details about actual situations we have encountered that resulted in successful, less than successful, and really not successful projects.  We will talk about how we handled these situations, including what we could have done better.

More specifically, we will look at:

* two different situations in which we encountered hidden stakeholders

* several different situations in which clients had fiscal policies affecting budget management

* a case with shifting scope

* a case with micro-management of budget

* and some other anecdotal examples

In each of these case studies, we will look at how the above situations effected the project, how we reacted to the situation, and what the outcomes were.  We will share pointers learned from our failures and also our successes.

Attendees of this session will come away with useful insights and tips we have learned from experience dealing with clients and managing big projects.

This session will not go into any project management basics and is best suited for PMs with some prior experience.
