Drupal 8, by the time of DrupalCon New Orleans, should be shipping with a straight upgrade path from previous versions. All your existing configuration and content, imported as–is to a fresh Drupal 8 installation with a few clicks. And maybe your existing site is just the way you like it - logical content types, with just the right fields for each one. Or... Maybe in hindsight you didn't really need three different content types here, and wish you had chosen a different field type for your dates there. And maybe Drupal 8 opens up new possibilities that didn't exist in D6 and D7, and you would like to transmogrify your existing content to take full advantage of them.
