How to Effectively Manage Remote Teams - Achieving Your Goals Together, While Apart

On one hand, easy access to Internet and Technologies like Skype, GoToMeeting; whereas on the other, increasing demand for time/space flexibility has attracted many to work and hire remotely. This is becoming a very common culture across the globe.

In addition to that, as technology is making the world a smaller place day by day, in terms of connectivity and accessibility, companies expand and look for business opportunities, mergers and good resource partners outside of their country too.
Larger companies in the US like Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson have expanded and have teams in India.
Smaller companies looking for good talent and at the same time sensitive to costs, are no longer limited by geographical location.

And we as Project Manager’s will sooner, if not already, have to work not only with remote teams within our country, but with international and culturally different remote teams.

This surely has some good advantages, but they also bring different set of challenges  – So the question is "Are you ready?"

  • Do you know your teams? What motivates them?
  • Will teams relate to project and client goals/expectations ?
  • What can be the communication issues? This can be the single most risk to the success of your project.
  • Are there differences in your working cultures/environments?
  • How do you manage and engage remote teams you have not met?
  • Will you be able to control productivity?
  • Do you have the correct processes and systems in place?
  • Are you ready to lead, create self-organized, empowered teams?
This session will cover the advantages and challenges working with remote teams, especially in India, and the risks that come along with it.
At the end of the session, I am hopeful, you will walk away with:
  • How you can, as a leader, mitigate these risks and motivate teams;
  • What kind of investments you need to make from your side to bring in sense of ownership, responsibility and team work;
  • How can you bring the teams closer to understanding the client’s vision, even though they are miles apart;
  • What tools/processes can help team self-organization, transparency and bridge the distance

So, if you are a Project Manager, beginner or intermediate, having difficulties managing remote teams or foreseeing yourself in this situation, this session will give you some solutions to mitigate risks and make it an enjoyable working experience !
