How to get your idea into Drupal

There are lots of great folks out there with great ideas. For a while (maybe still?) the phrase, "Ideation" became popular to try to collect and flesh out ideas from the crowd. Maybe you are one of the ones with a "great" idea. With all the gates and technical and social barriers to contributing to Drupal, let's discuss methods to get our "great" & "game changer" ideas more easily accepted and weed out "mediocre" ideas.

Are endurance and persistence our only options? As a long-time mentors and contributors, we'd like to share some of our observations. Then listen and learn as we discuss these very real challenges.

Possible items to discuss:

  1. Core mentorship

  2. Project vetting process as a barrier to new contributors

  3. Getting a (supposedly) simple patch accepted

  4. Actually getting a new module into core

    1. What are the requirements for the module?

    2. Why should something move from contrib to core? i.e. what is a good candidate?

    3. What is the process?

  5. And I'm sure much, much more.
