Search API Best Practices

Greg Boggs

Drupal search is a weak spot. In Drupal 7, we had many competing solutions for search. In Drupal 8, those efforts have combined into a single powerful tool for search, Search API for D8. With the module suite almost ready for production, it's time to look at how to do search right.

Nick Veenhof and Thomas Seidl are amazing for all their work building powerful tools for site builders. But, putting these tools together to build a powerful user experience is difficult. The tools can easily be implemented poorly. To do search well blurs the lines between UX, performance, SEO, and development. And, there are some common mistakes site builders make building site search pages with Search API. But, you don't have to be an expert in all 4 to implement Search API well. Come learn the gotchas and how to avoid them.

This session is ideal for someone who is responsible for designing or building site search pages. The session does not require previous experience. Although some experience with site search is recommended. You will leave the session empowered to build search results pages well.
