BDO, a national accounting firm, uses Drupal to support their private member community, the BDO USA Alliance Portal. The Alliance Portal is designed to engage existing accounts, provide them with tools and information, and connect Alliance Portal members to share knowledge and business opportunities. This session is designed for anyone evaluating Drupal from a business perspective who wants to learn about the capabilities of Drupal beyond simply content management.

In 2011, the Alliance Portal team compared various CMS solutions to determine the right platform for the community. After hosting the Portal on an internal platform and Microsoft SharePoint, BDO chose to move to Drupal as their content management system (CMS) for the next version of the Portal.

BDO determined that Drupal was the best solution because of its modular functionality and the ability to add custom code to create the behind the scenes magic that its members needed. As BDO’s partner for the past five years, Duo Consulting used Drupal’s functionality and custom development work to build new self-service functionality for the Alliance Portal.

In this session, you will learn why BDO chose to build their closed collaboration platform on Drupal and how they use Drupal for more than just content management. Topics in this session include:

  • The business case for using Drupal
  • Can Drupal be more than a CMS?
  • Why BDO chose Drupal
  • How BDO uses Drupal for more than just content management
  • How Drupal integrates with numerous third-party systems
  • How Drupal adds value to the BDO platform
  • How Drupal helped BDO reduce Help Desk tickets, increase referral fees generated through the platform and grow member engagement
