Course description

Working on a cross-functional, cross-cultural, cross-location or cross-organization team can be a great experience - or a dreaded nightmare, where projects get bogged down by miscommunication, "difficult personalities," conflicting agendas, impossible timeframes, resource gaps and delayed decisions. Traditional methods of team building and team communication can be useful - but are just not enough. Leaders and teams - regardless of the project they're working on or the methodology they use - all face similar issues, exacerbated by working in an imperfect, constantly changing environment.

It's often been said that the technology part is easy; it's the people part that's tough. The nature of collaborative teams that are cross-functional, cross-cultural and dispersed brings its own challenges. This course will give you simple, practical tools and techniques that you can use right now to be able to leverage analytical skills and apply them to build effective team dynamics, be more influential with your stakeholders or constituents, and reduce the frustration and churn that often plague teams.

Learning Objectives

After taking this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Recognize the early warning signs that your team may be headed for trouble
  • Gain insight into how corporate culture affects the effectiveness of your team
  • Identify key points in a project where simple interventions can help avoid typical problems that arise
  • Apply new, proven techniques, designed with a built-in 'coach', to jointly resolve common problems teams face
  • Create a high-performing, collaborative team built on Critical Thinking, Thoughtful Candor, Clarity, Alignment and Agility
Who will gain the most from this course?

This seminar is best for experienced people who currently lead teams, particularly those who work within an organization or work directly with teams in client organizations. All of the tools and techniques we will talk about during the session are those we created ourselves and have used and refined over the past 30 years to keep up with the changing challenges teams face. Each session is designed to apply the tools and techniques to work on 'real' or current issues facing the participants in the session so that they are relevant and immediately useable.
