Course description

If you are tired of wasting time tweaking servers or remembering how to properly get Drupal safely and stably working on a new system, then this is the training for you. Our hands-on workshop is a crash course on optimizing your workflow, using techniques refined over years of professional Drupal work. We share our preferred development setup (including a Vagrant project we will use to build a copy of our environment), show you how to automate tests, deployments, and other tasks with Jenkins, demonstrate best practices, and help you keep track of your code and Drupal patches in a way that scales to many developers.

  • Local development with Vagrant-managed Virtual machines
  • Git feature branch workflow (including recommendations for branching, merging, and rebasing)
  • Managing multiple development environments including using Drupal 8 config management system and Drush Fetcher
  • Managing patches and updates
  • Setting up Jenkins and automating tasks
  • Deployment jobs
  • Continuous Integration topics including automated testing and CI tools

Prerequisites for this course

You must be familiar with developing with Drupal, performing basic tasks at the Linux command line, and bring a laptop with VirtualBox and Vagrant installed. If you use windows you will also need an SSH client such as Putty.

Dev Environments

The tools we use work best on Mac or Linux but Windows can be used with minor alterations.If your course is not tested on all platforms, list which platforms it is tested for. This prevents frustration for students whose machine is not set up for the training.
