DrupalCon Barcelona 2020 - Experience the Open Web - update

Update as of July 1st

As Europe starts to reopen its borders, we feel like it’s time to give you an update about where we are now and how you can get ready for the Drupal community fun in the best and easiest way.

In the past few weeks, the KUONI team together with the track chair team have been working hard to prepare this year’s DrupalCon European Edition, and our work is still ongoing to get back to normal, as it was planned in the first place. Here are some questions and answers about where we are now.

Is DrupalCon Barcelona happening?

We understand if this is one of the first questions you want to ask about our plans, and we can confirm that based on our current knowledge and understanding about the COVID-19 situation in Europe, DrupalCon Barcelona will be held between December 8-11 2020.

In the Drupal world most of us have at least once experienced the 'community' strength which brings us all together. Our strong goal is to bring the community together in Barcelona and celebrate the joy this platform brings us.

We know that there are unfortunately many areas we don’t have much power over, but we are taking precautions, and all our efforts are focused towards building a safe environment for all. Details will be shared as time goes by and we know more of the mandatory regulations.

What is happening behind the curtains - extended session submission deadline

Our focus is on ensuring the best possible DrupalCon for all of you. The program team is participating in bi-weekly meetings, and we are receiving more and more sessions each day. If you are still unfamiliar about what tracks we have this year, here is the summary for you. We are really excited to hear about your case studies, best practices and methods, solutions and challenges in your everyday work.

We have extended the deadline to submit your proposal for sessions to July 17, so you still have a few more days left. We hope the experience of DrupalCon Global will also encourage more of you to want to share your knowledge.
Help us to fill up this conference with your enthusiasm and knowledge through top quality content so that we can make this con a necessity for all to learn from.

How can I prepare for DrupalCon Barcelona?

Borders have already been reopened in many countries all over Europe and this trend seems to continue in the next few weeks, but unfortunately it is hard to foresee what is going to be the situation in December. We strongly suggest to observe this website, which shows where it is safe to travel within the European Union. Unfortunately non-EU member countries don’t show any information, so please consult your government announcements to make sure travelling to Spain is allowed in December.

In the past few weeks more and more airline companies have updated their time schedules, so more and more flights are available in the future. However, it is already clear that it is difficult to make solid travel plans, since flights can still be cancelled. We suggest that if you really need to purchase your flight tickets in advance, to sign up for travel insurance as well, and purchase a flexible ticket option, which also gives you an option to cancel the flight for free. In order to lower the risk of losing money, take a look at accommodations where payment needs to be made upon arrival, or can be cancelled any time without risk.

We have prepared an FAQ to answer your questions.

We are really looking forward to December, to come together in a safe and inclusive environment for DrupalCon Barcelona 2020 - Experience the Open Web.

Stay safe and stay healthy!
