We are looking for submissions in the following 5 sub-themes of Open Web & Community track:

Open Web

“What is Open Web?”, it is a web created by all of us and open for all of us!

We all depend on the Open Web. For our society it’s highly critical that the web stays open and inclusive, otherwise we will lose freedom in how we work, communicate or create. However, the World Wide Web as a free and open platform is losing ground

“The web is at a crucial point. More than half the world’s population remains offline, and the rate of new people getting connected is slowing. Those of us who are online are seeing our rights and freedoms threatened.“ Tim Berners Lee, Source

Open Source Software like Drupal plays an important role in keeping the web open. But what steps can we and the Drupal community take to defend the Open Web? Is it enough to develop free software together? How can a more decentralized web look? How can we enforce open standards, inclusion and data privacy? This sub-theme will provide a stage for discussing such topics.

We are also looking for sessions that share learnings, success stories or failures in experiencing or improving the

  • Open Web,
  • Being human and healthy at work,
  • Diversity and inclusion.

We can also imagine workshops around topics like creating personal websites or the indieweb.

Let’s fight for an open, diverse and inclusive web!

Contribution

The open web won’t work without contributions. The Drupal community welcomes contributions from everyone who wants to contribute in a healthy and constructive manner. Sometimes it can be very challenging to find the right area or issue which is a good fit for your skills - especially for new contributors.

“A contributor is someone who has three qualities: they see something and they say, ‘that’s dumb,’ then they say ‘hey, I really wanna see that thing fixed,’ and they do something about it.” - Angela Byron, Drupal 7 Maintainer, Source

This sub-theme accepts sessions & workshops which will help us create a safe and positive community experience for all and solve hurdles for new contributors. These sessions are about sharing experiences and motivating each other to actively participate and contribute to the community.

Community Conversations

Community conversations are vital to the Drupal and Open Web communities. It’s important to keep these discussions open and to allow everyone in the community to participate, regardless of skill set or experience.

Everyone’s voice should be heard!

This sub-theme accepts sessions pertaining to discussion about various Drupal initiatives and community issues. These sessions should consist of a short presentation, with the rest of the time allotted to a larger conversation with the audience.

Diversity & Inclusion

It’s important to remember that the Drupal community consists of people, who go through both good and bad things throughout their lives. It’s also important that everyone in the community works together to make Drupal accessible to everyone, regardless of what one follows/practices in its personal life.

We are looking for resources to make the Drupal community more inclusive and equitable. Bring us your success stories around diversity & inclusion, sessions that talk about what still needs to be explored and ideas that are yet to be tested. We are welcoming actionable advice as well as open discussions in a panel format to be part of this sub-theme.

Being Human

The human aspects of our industry, the Drupal community and the overall Open Web community are important to us.

"You've got to love what you do to really make things happen." - Philip Green

Learn about how to be happy and healthy at work, how to be a productive team and community member, how the community and project support each other. This sub-theme is also for everyone wanting to hear stories about how Drupal helped make dreams come true.

We would like to hear your advice and knowledge on successful ways of working and collaborating with others. Your views on how we can provide and maintain a safe, welcoming, empowering, inclusive community for everyone. Experiences with mental health issues, how you support yourself, others around you, and how we can support the community at large.

Submit your sessions now and help create the best program for DrupalCon Barcelona 2020!
