The Evolving Charts Ecosystem

In our experience, users are increasingly seeking solutions for analyzing and visualizing data on the web. While the Charts module makes it easy for site builders to create fully-featured charts, users often want more features than those available out-of-the-box.

The concept of Drupal “ecosystems” arose at least as early as 2011, when @joachim posted the issue, “Make it easier to identify and discover ecosystem modules.” This year, Drupal.org maintainers incorporated the idea, allowing users to discover modules that work together by adding “/ecosystem” at the end of a project page URL.

Responding to user demand, an ecosystem of modules has grown to support the Charts module, which, in turn, supports other ecosystems, such as the Views and Webform ecosystems.

In this presentation, we will discuss and demonstrate ways that you can take advantage of the Charts ecosystem to support your user’s data analysis and visualization needs. This will include:
- Building on-the-fly dashboards combining Charts and Core’s Layout Builder
- Creating dynamic charts through integration with the Views Fields On/Off module
- Creating Charts with dynamic analysis through integration with Views Simple Math field
