Migrating to Drupal 8 as part of a website redesign

khorrocks@pcrm.org

A website redesign is a great opportunity to migrate a website from Drupal 7 to Drupal 8. However, a redesign can make migration tricky since only some of the existing content may need to be migrated and that content may need to be migrated to a new content structure.

Using the redesign of the nonprofit Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine’s website as an example, this session will cover how to fetch the content to migrate and transform that content using migration plugins. Challenges encountered during the migration of the Physicians Committee’s website and how they were overcome will also be covered.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, attendees will be able to:

  1. Use the migrate API to perform migrations.
  2. Create a YAML migration plugin.
  3. Write a custom SQL source plugin.

Target Audience

This session is for developers who are planning Drupal 8 migrations.

Prerequisites

Attendees will get the most out of this session if they have some familiarity with writing custom modules in Drupal 8. Knowledge of the migrate API is not necessary, as that will be covered in this session.
