Come Sprint at DrupalCon

At DrupalCon there’s plenty of opportunity to give back, learn, and make a difference when you attend sprints. Whether this is your first Drupal event or you've been to several camps and Cons and are ready to try something new, we look forward to seeing you at the sprints.

What’s a sprint?

Sprints are like hackathons or code-ins: everyone sits down together in a big room and works to improve some component of Drupal. There are mentors available at most sprints, who are happy to help you find a task to work on that is appropriate for your knowledge and experience level. The sprints at DrupalCon New Orleans are generously sponsored by our friends at Bluehost. Thanks, Bluehost!

What happens at sprints?

There are numerous different ways of contributing at sprints. You can work on contributing code to Drupal — or you can work on related Drupal.org tasks. Assisting with translation, documentation, modules, or even issue queue cleanup are welcome sprint contributions. However you choose to help, we appreciate it!

Who are the mentors?

We have a fantastic line-up of volunteer mentors this year. (If you know your way around contributing to Drupal already, consider becoming a mentor!) Dozens of volunteers are available to walk you through every step of sprinting, from selecting a sprint task that’s appropriate for your knowledge and experience level, helping you work on the task, and getting a development environment set up on your computer if necessary.

When are the sprints?

Sprints take place the weekends before and after DrupalCon, as well as 24 hours a day during the Con itself. Here are some of the different sprinting options that will be available over the nine days during and surrounding DrupalCon.

Extended and In-Con Sprints

  • Pre-DrupalCon Extended Sprints: If you are arriving before the conference begins, join the extended sprints on May 7-8, from 9am to 9pm, at Launch Pad, 643 Magazine St #102, New Orleans, LA 70130

  • Monday, May 9: Sprints are at the New Orleans Convention Center - Room 275-277

  • Monday from 7pm until Thursday at midnight: Sprints will take place 24 hours a day at the New Orleans Marriott, 555 Canal Street, Balcony I-J, 5th Floor

  • May 10-12: A Sprint Lounge will be available at the New Orleans Convention Center - Room 275-277

General Sprints

Friday is the big day for sprinters. Come to the Convention Center see just how big a sprint can be:

  • The First-Time Sprinter Workshop is for you if you are new to contributing to Drupal. Friday from 9:00am-12:00pm.

  • The Mentored Core Sprint is for you if you'd like to work with a mentor to contribute to Drupal core and you want help selecting and working on an issue. Be sure you have your Drupal 8 development environment set up to get a head start.

  • The General Sprints are for anyone who wants to collaborate in-person with hundreds of other Drupal community member. This awesome day of collaboration is open to anyone; you do not need to be registered for the conference to participate.

Additionally, more Extended Sprints will be available the weekend after DrupalCon. On May 14 and 15 there is ample opportunity to continue working on your contributions at the extended sprints after the main program is over. Sprints will happen each day from 9am to 9pm at Launch Pad, 643 Magazine St #102, New Orleans, LA 70130.

We hope to see you at the sprints, and wish you a great time at DrupalCon.
