Tag and Release: Monitoring Application Behavior in Distributed Systems
As applications move towards microservice and cloud-based architectures, they’re becoming increasingly distributed: this provides benefits around scaling both individual components of the system as well as the teams that work on them. But it also introduces new challenges: things like finding bottlenecks and debugging become more complex, and the tools/techniques we’re used to using don’t work as well.
In this short session, I’ll explore the motivation and theory behind distributed tracing, then talk about the challenges AppNeta faced during development of distributed tracing for Drupal and PHP applications generally.
A LAMP stack is a mini distributed system, so this session will be enjoyable to anyone with a taste for monitoring and debugging. Attendees with experience in service-oriented architectures will have additional take-aways from the talk.
