Beyond agile
jdavidhobbs
Of course we use iterative techniques in website development. But it’s only part of how change happens on websites. One of the reasons our best laid plans go by the wayside over time (for instance, shortly after a redesign) is that we think far too narrowly about digital change, often with a focus on iterating toward a specific event: a launch or relaunch.
The purpose of this talk is to look at ways of making higher impact and longer lasting digital changes.
We will look at:
- Various cadences of change, from day-to-day publishing to agile sprints to infrequent redesigns
- The four quadrants of change, looking at how disruptive and broad different types of change are
- How agile fits within other types of change
- Methods of reframing problems for higher impact (and how to evaluate how big an impact a change will have)
- How to create ways of engaging with stakeholders that can be continued after launch
- How to sequence development to “get the bones right” for long term growth and quality
This talk will draw upon David’s book Website Product Management: Keeping focused during change.
