Diversification and Drupal

BT48.com was founded on Drupal. After 6 years of using Drupal for over 95% of our projects we made the decision to move away from using Drupal for web projects in an attempt to diversify our sources of income.

After 18 months we have found that even as we are building more custom Angular or Unity applications we still have Drupal as an intrinsic part of our business. Rather than moving away from using Drupal we now rely on it even more - but in a more sustainable way that recognises the strengths and limitations of the platform and allow us to deliver projects more effectively and operate in a more strategic way.

This session will cover:

  • how we utilised Drupal to build our business
  • why we wanted to diversify and what happened when we did
  • how we recognised the strengths and weaknesses of Drupal and how this shapes our business development plan
  • how Drupal 8 has been a major influence on our future plans for BT48

This session will be interesting for you if:

  • You are in the beginning stages of your business and are looking to learn what works and what doesn't
  • You are worried that by focusing on Drupal you may be limiting your future opportunities
  • You are working with a range of front end technologies and wish to unify your data manipulation and data entry systems

You don't need any particular prior knowledge of Drupal for this session but an awareness of some of the issues around the move to Headless Drupal would be an advantage.
