It’s Not About Us It’s About the Future

As we embark on the journey of developing the future generation of websites, it can be easy to get wrapped up in our legacy and trapped in the mindset of using only the techniques we are comfortable with which are not necessarily the best. It is important to understand and recognise that the next generation of developers will soon hit the workforce and become involved with our community. This generation of young adults was born with a smartphone, apps, and internet; to them PHP4, floppys, and CDs seem as outdated aspen and paper.

With so many CMSs, frameworks, languages, and apps, it is important to highlight the power, flexibility and community of Drupal to the youth of today.  As an agency, miggle believes in the importance of fostering the workforce of tomorrow – teaching them how to work with Drupal and be a part of the community which we’ve all worked so hard to create.

As Drupal becomes more reputable and training resources become more widely available, it is imperative that the teens of today are able to gain exposure to the benefits of Drupal early on and are able to make the most of resources such as the Drupal Apprenticeship Scheme so they are a part of the next versions of Drupal.

In this session I will highlight what we are doing at miggle to foster young talent and expose them to Drupal and its community.

We will cover the following:

  • Training Resources

  • HTML

  • CSS

  • Drupal Documentation

  • TWIG

  • Views

  • Next steps

Throughout this session we will provide insights and tips on how your agency can do the same in a way which is manageable, maintainable, and exciting for everyone involved.

We will also illustrate what we have done with ThinkNation (our first-ever Drupal 8 site) and how we were able to harness the power and new tools of Drupal 8 to allow collaboration with our work experience pupil.  This session doesn't require any development knowledge other than the basic understanding of Drupal and its community. After this session, we hope that you are inspired to take this away and get youths in your area involved with Drupal.
