Managed services are killing the DevOps

robertoperuzzo

The software deployment is a tricky step that any agency has to face during a web project delivery. As usual, the recommended approach is to write your own delivery tools, which allows you to keep synchronized data in different environments and to perform automatic deployment into production. But who is responsible for keeping them in good condition? Well, here comes the DevOps team, ready to guarantee that your automatic procedures work perfectly with every delivery.
In this presentation I want to bring up our experience from the beginning, when we wrote the first deployment script, and we had to spend time to maintain it and money to pay our system administrator. But now that we are using cloud services to manage our automations, we don’t hate to worry aboutit.
The initial data we were gathering show that we can have more control of our web projects without changing our development team and without investing more time and money on DevOps.

My session will be organised in 4 part:

  • looking after your own automatic delivery tools is expensive;
  • managed services like Platform.sh can replace your DevOps team;
  • how the delivery process changes in Studio Aqua;
  • show how our delivery frequence has increased.

At the end, the attendees will know that there is a new way to deliver a web project, a way without your in-house IT operators.
