The most important job in the world

kurkuma

What is the most important job in the world and why? In this talk we will explore what that might be and what we may learn from it.

I will review the following concepts from the developer's perspective and into the management framework:

  • Estimations: how long? can't you do it faster? how much faster if you don't do x?
  • Risks: the chances of the world ending if we mess up in our project are very small so do not plan for that eventuality.
  • Testing: we do not have budget, so remove the tests!
  • Automation: how much work will it take? no, no, no, just do it manually now and we will review it tomorrow.
  • Development: it's just a search box! what do you mean it will take us so many weeks to implement?

Many times the lines between development and management are blured in a project and both roles affect each other in a negative way. Let's review the common grounds between both responsibility areas in projects to try to understand what can and can not be mixed up. The developer role being the source for each subject and te manager role being the user of each concept.
