Project Management & the Distributed Team - Getting Stuff Done with a Virtual Watercooler
Distributed teams and remote working is trending, with more people and organizations testing the waters--if not outright embracing it--every year. To paraphrase the great philosopher of our times, Abraham Jebediah Simpson II: 'it' seems weird and scary, and it'll happen to you!
We'll explore how to make the most of managing a distributed team, including:
- What PM and communciations tools to use, and the pros/cons of utilizing these tools
- Distributed team considerations to be mindful of that you otherwise would not concern yourself with in an office environment
- Culture: Ways to foster teamwork and collaboration online - building your virtual watercooler
- How to manage people that may not be accustomed, or conducive, to a remote work environment
- How to ensure your team is accountable, and not just watching sessions from old Drupalcons all day
This session is geared towards beginner and moderate PMs and developers, or anyone new to or considering making the leap to remote working and distributed teams. The goal is to raise awareness for considerations in working with a distributed team, and to provide tools and suggestions for improving teamwork and throughput in a distributed environment.
