Semantic first: Linked Open Data as the backbone of the organization
sandervd
The amount of data available on the web today is enormous. There is however, still some work to be done:
Sites are generally focused on publishing pages for human consumption; the data is somewhat 'locked in'.
HTML does not allow for easy re-use, and the effort to create 'mash-ups' of data provided by different websites is big.
So how can we mitigate this? Let's have a look at the state of the semantic web, beyond the hype that was created some years ago...
During this talk we'll dive into the following topics:
- What the semantic web really is about.
- Why you should care about Linked Open Data
- What makes up the Semantic web: RDF, URIs, SPARQL and triple store databases.
- Semantic data modeling, and how it can benefit your application design
- Separating your data model from Drupal to maximize interoperability and ease future migrations.
- How Linked Open Data is used today
- Going 'Semantic first': Why we decided to use a triple store database as an architectural building block.
We will end with a short demo where we use Drupal 8 as a front-end application for a SPARQL endpoint.
