Yoga and mental health
Introduction
Creating a balance between life activities to achieve psychological resilience is something all of us strieve to achieve. Playing multiple roles(parent, spouse, full time employee, opensource contributor) often leads to stress resulting into an imbalance in the life activities.
Once we loose this balance it is often hard to get it back and if left unattended it can lead to depression and often medication is considered one of the cures which might give you a *feel good* factor that you have achieved the balance back but often medication can have side effects.
MY STORY
I(a_thakur) am a husband, father, full time employee and an opensource contributor(Drupal and Elasticsearch). Last one year has been one of the most fast paced time in my life with an year full of travel(work + family) and additional responsibilities which lead did lead to stress and it was here when opensoure contributions took a back seat which did made me to feel guilty.
But inspite of guilt and stress I did try to maintain a decent balance between my life activities and one thing which has helped me in achieving this is practicing Yoga.
WhAT TO EXPECT In thiS SESSION
In this session I would various aspects and benefits of practicing Yoga and attaining psychological resilience through practice of Yoga. I am not perfect but I assure you that in case you practice Yoga with discipline you would attain permanent mental wellness and get rid of any stress related issues and medication.
The format of the session would be
- Brief talk about mental health and cures
- Introduction to yoga and meditation
- Asanas and Prayanama
- My daily schedule of various asanas and prayanamas: I specifically choose some of these depending upon my profession where I have to sit constantly in front of computer which I believe would be the case for most of the audience
In case time permits all of us can gather early morning(on any day of the con) in a park nearby for a yoga session :).
