Come for the Con, Stay for the Sprints
Each DrupalCon is filled with inspiration, networking, and fun — and while cutting-edge sessions are plentiful, sprints are the heart of the conference. A sprint is a get-together for focused work on a project, and a fantastic opportunity to make contributions to Drupal.
Even if you are not giving a session or leading a BoF ("birds of a feather" event) at DrupalCon, there is plenty of opportunity to give back and make a difference when you attend the sprints. There will be extended sprints taking place between 19-27 September, but the main sprint day is Friday 25 September.
Make a difference
DrupalCon sprints are critically important to pushing the Drupal project forward, and are also a great opportunity to give back alongside the people who help bring the code to life. Join us at DrupalCon Barcelona and help make an impact!
Big Sprint Day is Friday, 25 September
Every DrupalCon, we cap off the week with a full day of contribution sprints. The biggest sprint day at DrupalCon Barcelona is on 25 September from 9:00 until 18:00. You will want to stay the whole day! Whether you are a site builder, designer, programmer, themer, technical writer, usability specialist, or project manager, if you have worked with Drupal in some capacity, this is your chance to contribute back to the Drupal community.
The sprint on Friday will include three separate events:
- First-time sprinter workshop
Join this free workshop if you are familiar with Drupal but new to Drupal contribution. This hands-on workshop will cover the basics of contribution essentials like the Drupal.org issue queues and IRC, and optionally git and setting up Drupal 8 on your laptop. We will be running the first-time sprinter workshop session at 9:00.
- Mentored Core sprint
The mentored sprint is for new contributors. Mentors will be on hand to help you get set up, navigate Drupal.org, find issues you are interested in, and work through the process of contributing. All skill levels and roles are welcome. This is not a developer-only event. If you are new to contributing or you do not yet have a Drupal 8 development environment, you should attend the first-time sprinter workshop, then come here.
- General sprints
If you know the issues you want to work on and have experience working with others in Drupal issue queues, you can head straight to one of the many other sprints to do focused work on one particular area of Drupal. So far we have:
- Getting D8 done
- Drupal 8 Core Major Issue Triage
- Front-end United
- Search API for Drupal 8
- Performance (front and back end)
- and more sprints to be announced
You will work directly with initiative leads and collaborate on issues. This is a great opportunity to make a difference for the Drupal project!
Help mentor new contributors
Are you already familiar with setting up a development environment or with the core contribution process? Want to help other contributors? We are always looking for more mentors to work with our first-time contributors.
Want to mentor, but also want to sprint yourself? Then, extended Sprints are for you.
Extended Sprints will be 19 and 20 September, and 26 and 27 September
Take advantage of being able to work with others from around the world with extra days: extended sprint days! Sign up for extended sprints so we can make sure we have enough resources and room for you!
