Scholarships and Grants Bring 23 Attendees to the Con

We always say that you come for the code but stay for the community, but for some attendees, affording a DrupalCon to interact with the community is a hurdle.  We were happy that we were able to offer 20.000€ between 23 grant and scholarship recipients to help lessen that burden and really help them make an impact in Barcelona.  You can see who received a grant or scholarship here.

These attendees use this aid to make a huge impact within the Drupal Community.  Recipients will use their time at DrupalCon to make connections, further the project, learn things that they can share with their local communites, and truly help get D8 out the door. We are so happy to welcome them to DrupalCon Barcelona. Here are a few recipients' plans on how they will use DrupalCon to make an impact:

  • Alina Mackenzie (alimac) will be attending DrupalCon on a grant and apart from giving and attending sessions, she wants to focus on the future of core mentoring - a hugely important way to contribute!  She will also make a huge impact by presenting the First-Time Sprinter Workshop on Friday, 25 September.
  • Luis Angel Hañari Coyla (langelhc) attended DrupalCon Latin America and met some 'super drupalers' as he calls them; he was so inspired that he applied for a scholarship to attend DrupalCon Barcelona to continue learning from the larger community and bring that knowledge back to Peru to share and help others in the way that he says Drupal has helped him.
  • Alvaro Hurtado (alvar0hurtad0), an active Spanish Drupaler, is attending and will use his time in Barcelona to further help the project and community grow in Spain.  He recognizes the importance of interacting with the community at the largest European Drupal event and because he says he lives and breathes Drupal, he can't imagine not being there!
  • Dan Mulindwa (dcmul) is looking forward to the honor of sitting down with Drupalers from around the world and using the knowledge he gains in Barcelona back to Uganda and mentor Drupalers there!
  • Ayesh Karunaratne (Ayeshis a Sri Lankan who is active in the South Asian communities and has watched DrupalCon from afar but will be attending his first DrupalCon thanks to the grant he received. He says that he understands that Drupal is not just about the code and by attending DrupalCon he will really get to experience the larger Drupal community firsthand.
